Artist’s Statement

I am interested in recording nature and telling individual stories at the same time. Deeply influenced by 19th century naturalist painters I continue to find myself attracted to painting in a very present way. Every stage of crafting a painting is carefully considered. I hope each painting I create will be a vehicle for the viewer to connect with my subject and my subjects reality.

“Tarnished,” is an astonishing painting. The reality of the pitcher, of the object itself, is palpable and deeply affecting.

Leeanna began her studies with Attila Hejja at the Stevenson Academy of Fine Arts in Oyster Bay, NY. She continued with artist Nelson Shanks at the New York Art Students League, Robert Armetta at Atelier Armetta and then at The Water Street Atelier with Jacob Collins. She primarily focuses on the form of classical realism using traditional painting methods to convey contemporary subject matter. She is a recipient of the John F. Anna Lee Stacey Grant and currently teaches at The Teaching Studios in Oyster Bay, NY.
